Where do you shower on a 40-hour travel day?

Hi, Reader. When you're facing a multi-day transit marathon, the line between an adventure and an ordeal is often drawn in the airport lounge.

I'm planning a trip for my family of three from Raleigh-Durham (RDU) to Koh Samui, Thailand (USM). It's a journey that takes us halfway around the world, involving three connections stretched over two grueling days.

We managed to secure business-class tickets, which means we have access to a network of premium lounges along the way. But with multiple layovers across different continents, figuring out which lounges to hit, when to shower, and how to navigate unfamiliar terminals is a logistical puzzle best suited for AI.

The Bilt app finds points you'd never think to look for

You don't need to spend the time to research whether your yoga studio, the parking garage, or the Italian spot down the street earns rewards. The Bilt app does it for you. The Neighborhood tab maps what's near you and what it earns, then gets you booked — fitness classes, dinner reservations, experiences, a Lyft home.

You can even hand a whole evening's itinerary to the Bilt Neighborhood Concierge in a single request. Learn how a single evening in Austin added up to 315 points.

Delegating the logistics to AI

Instead of spending hours cross-referencing airport maps, lounge directories, and blog reviews, I decided to let AI map out our ground strategy.

Once I figured out our lounge access options, I took a screenshot of our complex itinerary and fed it into my favorite AI tool with this exact prompt:

Here is my itinerary [attach screenshot].

We have business class tickets with lounge access. Look at my layovers and determine where we have time for accessing a lounge, which one we should go to (and why), and if each has a shower. Tell me if there are usually waits or reservation lists to consider and how much walking is involved.

The AI analyzed the connection times, factored in the typical walking distances between our arrival and departure gates, and pinpointed the optimal lounge for each stop.

The AI-optimized transit strategy

For our longest layover in Doha (DOH), the AI correctly identified the flagship lounge with the best shower facilities (Al Mourjan Business Lounge - The Garden), even noting that we should immediately put our names on the shower reservation list upon entry and flagged that the wait can stretch past an hour at peak transit times.

For a tighter connection on the return leg, it steered us away from a famously crowded lounge and recommended a quieter, closer alternative (Al Mourjan Business Lounge - South) where we could grab a quick bite without the stress of a cross-terminal sprint. I followed up by asking if either had a gym (spoiler: there's a small fitness studio at the Al Mourjan Business Lounge - The Garden at DOH).

It gave me options rather than a single answer, so I picked the ones I wanted and locked in a connection plan. Then I took that output, fed it to Google Gemini, and asked it to create calendar invites in my Google Calendar that honored the time zones I'd be in so that I would not have to fumble through a document to remember where to go, and when.

This approach took the guesswork out of planning for a 40-hour travel day. Knowing exactly where to go, what amenities to expect, and how to manage our time between flights means we can focus on landing rested rather than navigating.
